Union Strong: San Diego Zoo Staffer Shares Why She Supports Victor Torres for Secretary-Treasurer

I have been a San Diego Zoo employee for 20 years. When I first started working at the San Diego Zoo, I worked in the Retail department.

Looking back I can honestly say that whenever I felt I needed support and fair representation I always knew I could count on Victor and the appointed union shop stewards.

Eventually in my zoo career I transitioned to a nonunion position. This year along with the contagious excitement of the union contract negotiations I learned from Victor how the process worked for organizing my department. I reached out to Victor and he immediately began the process for me and my team to unionize. I can gladly now report that I am a Teamster once again.

I am so very grateful to Victor for his time and dedication to my team. While Victor was still negotiating and finalizing the new contract he still had the time, energy and the ability to help my department become union. With Victor’s experience, availability, knowledge and welcoming personality we couldn’t be in better hands.

I can wholeheartedly say that even though my department is a small and specialized workgroup, I know our concerns were listened to and achieving our objective of unionizing was valued by Victor and his team. That is why I very willingly and sincerely support Victor Torres for Secretary-Treasurer as well as the entire Unity Slate.
