Why Victor Torres is the Leader We Need

Hello everyone, my name is Freedi Martinez, and I’m a proud member of Teamsters Local 481. I’ve been with the Zoological Society of San Diego for 17 and a half years, starting as a sales clerk and working my way through multiple positions at the Wild Animal Park, Rancho Bernardo Warehouse, and the Zoo. I’ve been a union member for my entire career.

I’ve seen firsthand how Victor Torres gets results through his strong leadership. He has won crucial fights, protected our rights, and stood up to corporate greed. That’s why I am wholeheartedly endorsing Victor Torres for Secretary-Treasurer of our union and giving my full support to the Unity Slate. We need proven leaders who have real results, and Victor has years of experience standing up for our members.

Victor is a relentless fighter. He has negotiated many contracts, consistently protecting the great health benefits we have and deserve. I was part of our most recent contract negotiations and saw his proven experience shine through. He is a key reason we secured a great contract. I also observed his composure during our hardest battles with the employer. For example, when the Zoo tried to reduce our health benefits and make us pay a portion of our insurance, Victor fought hard and refused to back down. He stood up for what was right and ensured our benefits remained untouched. His integrity is unmatched, and he genuinely cares about the well-being of every person and working family in our union. He is pro-union to his core, and he is the person I want in our corner when there is a fight to be fought.

This isn’t just about one person; it’s about the future of our union. We need to stand together because we are stronger together. With Victor Torres at the forefront, we can continue to win those hard fights and build an even stronger, more unified union.
