33-Year San Diego Zoo Vet Pauline Handlon Backs Victor Torres

My name is Pauline Handlon, and I have been working at the San Diego Zoo in retail for 33 years. When I first started working at the zoo, merchandising and food service operated as two distinct departments. When the departments were merged in 2011 the transition presented some challenges. However, Victor ensured that existing employees were grandfathered into their respective roles, not required to cross-train between departments. His efforts helped ease the adjustment and maintain stability within the team.

As a union, we place importance on seniority. Victor ensured that seniority provisions related to the vacation calendar were consistently included in our contract, protecting and preserving the seniority rights of employees. 

Victor also made sure we were able to keep our health benefits, which meant a great deal to us. He has always worked to protect those benefits for the employees.  

I fully trust Victor Torres and the entire Unity Slate to continue to lead our union with experience and integrity and I endorse them 100%. The future of our local is too important to gamble with!
