“Victor Listens”: A Personal Recommendation for the Unity Slate

I am writing this as a personal recommendation of Victor Torres to continue in the position of Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters Local 481 and head of the Unity Slate. I could not recommend him more highly.

I have known Victor for over 45 years. We met through participation on competing sports teams.

Early on he told me he worked at the San Diego Zoo.

I remember how excited he was to have joined the Teamsters Union, especially since his Father had been a union member. I think Victor knew back then that being involved with the Union was his path.

So, it wasn’t a surprise for me to learn that Victor had been elected Secretary Treasurer, and I couldn’t be prouder of his success. The commitment and dedication he’d shown when we met had not wavered once and now, he is able to help others on their journey, negotiating the best contracts possible for his fellow members and their families.

Here is what I know about Victor:

  • Victor listens. No matter what I might say, Victor will take it in. And he remembers what I tell him, even from conversations we’d had long ago. I always feel heard when I talk to Victor.
  • Victor is thoughtful. He takes in information, weighs, and considers when making decisions. He offers what information he has without confrontation, resulting in a very productive exchange.
  • Victor cares about and values every Union employee. I have been aware for many years that on Thanksgiving morning he serves hot coffee and treats to arriving employees at the Zoo. I always thought it was a wonderful gesture of appreciation for those who must work on days that most get off.
  • Victor has commitment, dedication, and experience, 45 years of experience. That’s rare for any career.
  • Having watched him walk this path for so long, knowing his personality for so many years, I can say with certainty that there is not a more qualified person for the position of Secretary Treasurer of Local 481 than Victor Torres.

Sincerely,
Romney M. Robinson
