I’m writing this letter to express my support for our union leader, Victor Torres. His unwavering commitment to our collective well-being has not only earned my respect but also preserved the exceptional benefits package that our members rely on.
Victor has been a trusted leader in our local for over 30 years, consistently demonstrating a deep sense of responsibility, integrity, and service to the membership. His decades of experience have equipped him with the insight and judgment necessary to navigate even the most complex challenges in labor relations.
For many years, Victor has represented us with calm strength and steady resolve. His fair and thoughtful approach to negotiations has repeatedly delivered results that protect and uplift our workforce. Under his leadership, we have maintained healthcare, retirement, and workplace protections that are above industry standards — a testament to his skill, dedication, and strategic thinking.
Most recently, Victor led the negotiating team in a successful effort that secured the highest overall pay raises the rank and file employees have ever received, marking a historic achievement for our membership.
Today’s workforce has varying, complicated and sometimes conflicting needs. During this negotiation cycle Victor was able to bring together a diverse group of bargaining unit committee members from across our company and over many months was able to lead that team to a unanimous vote of endorsement for our contract.
Victor’s calm demeanor is more than a personal trait — it’s a source of stability in times of challenge. I believe he brings a steady hand and a fair voice to every conversation. He is also known for his genuine accessibility — regularly returning phone calls to countless local members, ensuring that their voices are heard and concerns addressed. This direct line of communication strengthens the trust and unity that define our union.
No leader is perfect, and we can all learn, grow and work harder each day but I am proud of the leader he has been for this local. I fear that other potential leaders, with a less steady hand and a more uncompromising, sometimes confrontational tone, may endanger the very benefits we have all worked so hard to protect.
